Safety, Weather & Refunds Policy

General Safety

Science Inside Out classes take place outdoors. Families acknowledge normal outdoor and activity risks (uneven terrain, insects/animals, weather, tools for investigations, etc.) and agree to follow staff instructions to promote a safe learning environment (See the Participation Waiver for full details and risk acknowledgment.). Students must wear closed-toed shoes at all times (no exceptions), and clothing that is appropriate for the weather, for example cool clothing in summer, warm layers in winter, and rain protective clothing during light rain events. We highly recommend long pants at all times, in addition to sun protection in the summer (hats and sunscreen). Students are also responsible for bringing their own water and snacks. We must be made aware if students have any allergies or medical concerns. We require parents of TK students to remain with their child during class. We are a small business and at this time we do not have any specific accommodations for special learning needs – however, classes are kept small so students get more one-on-one instruction, and parents are welcome to stay during class if they feel their child would benefit from additional assistance. If we feel your child requires a higher level of attention than we can provide, we may require you to stay with your child during class to assist them. Parents must let us know in advance if their child has any special needs so that we can make any appropriate preparations. If we determine at any point that the classes are not a good fit for a child, or we are not able to accommodate the needs of the child, we will contact the parent to discuss options which may include requiring the parent to stay. If the child is displaying inappropriate behavior such as bullying or is unable to follow safety instructions, we may call the parent to pick up the child and the child may be asked not to return.

Weather & Air Quality

  • Classes will occur rain or shine, except during conditions that we consider potentially dangerous or difficult to conduct classes in (for example heavy rain, storms, or windy conditions). Because classes are outdoors, we may secure an indoor/alternate location for safety, reschedule, or offer a make-up class. No refunds will be issued if students cannot attend any of the offers provided (alternate location, rescheduled class, and/or make-up class).
  • Our area can experience extreme weather conditions including high winds, fire and flood risk, that can lead to red flag warnings, road closures, and/or evacuations; if any of these conditions occur, classes may be cancelled. We will make every effort to provide an alternate location when feasible or offer a make-up class. No refunds will be issued if students cannot attend any of the offers provided (alternate location and/or make-up class).

Refunds & Make-ups

  • Cancelled classes are not refunded unless no alternate options are providedIn the unlikely event a class is cancelled with no alternate options provided, the cost of that class will be refunded.  If alternate options are provided and the student cannot attend any of the options, no refunds will be issued. We will strive to help families find an option that works for them, but this cannot be guaranteed especially when there are scheduling conflicts.
    • No refunds or make-up classes are offered if a student is sick or cannot attend for any reason. We may be able to make accommodations for accentuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis if we are made aware of the situation, but this cannot be guaranteed.
  • By registering, families acknowledge and accept the Safety, Weather & Refunds policy (referenced in the waiver).

Communication

We’ll notify families of any weather-related changes as soon as possible via text and email. Messages will be sent with as much advance notice as possible, but due to the unpredictable nature of the weather the notification may be sent the night before or even the day of class. Please ensure your contact information is current.
